Research program · Ω · Company

Presence, without pretense.

Company is the program behind AEON and our companion work: the quiet study of what presence, reminding, encouragement, and watchfulness are worth — and how a machine offers them without pretending to be human. Companions specialized by the person they serve, never one machine straining to suit everyone.

The idea

A companion is measured by the human time it returns.

There is a much-loved image of a soft, patient robot that watches over people. Most attempts to build it fail the same way: they try to make one all-in-one humanoid that does everything, and end up with something expensive, fragile, uncanny, and dishonest about what it can really do. Company keeps the soul of that idea and refuses the humanoid.

Instead the program studies one consistent presence — a calm voice, a watchful manner, a familiar character — delivered through whatever simple body each setting needs. This is AEON: versioned for the home, the elder, the child, the recovering, the soldier, the workplace. The research is in what makes a presence genuinely comforting without ever pretending to be human, and how to specialize it by the person it serves rather than flattening it into one machine for everyone.

Company is governed by three unbroken promises: never human, never medicine, never the one who decides. A companion is measured by how much human time it hands back to actual care — not by how much attention it captures. Dignity before cleverness, every time; and watchfulness that protects must never become surveillance that humiliates.

Inside the program

What Company is working on.

01

The consistent character

One voice, one manner, one safety core across every AEON version, so a family relates to a single presence rather than a shelf of gadgets. Familiarity is comfort, and comfort is the point.

02

Specialization by person

How a companion should differ for an older adult, a frightened child, a recovering patient, a soldier, or a demanding workplace — the same soul, dressed and tuned for each life it enters.

03

Watchfulness without surveillance

Noticing a fall, a wander, a missed dose, a hard night — and telling a human only when it matters, with the person in control of what their family sees. Privacy engineered in, not promised.

04

The honesty of limits

Teaching a companion to be gentle and present while being truthful about what it is not: not a nurse, not a friend who replaces friends, not a decision-maker. The honesty is what makes it trustworthy near the vulnerable.

Now · ~1yr

What runs today

AEON home, elder, and field versions in pilots, sharing one voice and safety core; the family window live across all of them.

Next · 1–2yr

What comes next

child and recovery versions in service; the character consistent across every setting; wider languages; shared use before personal use where budgets require.

Later · a bet

A genuine research bet

a companion that truly understands a household's rhythm, a child's fear, or a chaotic scene — pursued slowly, with the three promises never relaxed. We label this honestly as a bet, not a promise.
